I received my results/medals in the mail last week for my Best of Show English Barley Wine (made with American Ale yeast by the way). I got two gold medals, one of which has a little Best of Show thingy attached. H&K took a picture of them on our dog….it’s blurry but you get the picture.

I didn’t receive any prize though…L The website states the BOS winner gets a $250 gift certificate to a homebrew store in Latham. I’m giving them a few more days but then I’m going to have to be “that guy” and email them about it.

My homegrown hop ale kicked this past weekend so a tap/keg is now open. I’m skipping the Dry Stout keg for like the third time so I can get the Holiday Ale in there. It’s only 2+ weeks old but it’s meant for December drinking so….gelatin is clearing it now. There is probably only 2 gallons or so of the Cali Common left so the Stout will get on tap soon. The Holiday Ale had a nice fermentation though. It finished up at 1.014 so mashing high did its job. A little more brown than red but not a bad color. It tastes like a malt based Amber Ale with some orange peel noticeable if you’re looking for it. I thought about Dry Hopping it but I think I’m going to leave it as is.
